My dad killed my rabbit

I usually take a moment before writing to think of a creative title for my posts in order to intrigue readers into reading my piece to it's fullest extent. You'll notice that many of my titles are strange, perhaps even captivating, however, this is not so for today's post. You see. There is nothing clever, witty, or even comical to be said about one's father putting to death his son's only rabbit. So this time, the title tells it how it is, plain and simple.

Before I go further into the incident that happened this week between my father and my beloved hare, I will backtrack to share with you some of the history behind my friend, brother, and accountability partner, Nibbles Hughes.

Topics to be covered:

I. Introduction
a. the early years
b. fame
c. community service

II. Timeline
a. highs
b. lows
c. regular days

III. Photo Gallery
a. nibbles
b. nibbles (with celery)
c. nibbles (with the guys)

IV. Legacy
a. life goes on
b. life might not go on
c. no one really knows for sure if life will go on

I. The life of Nibbles S. Hughes was lived to the fullest. He treated each day like it was his last, never wasting a moment. No rabbit that lived before him ever truly experienced life as he did, nor did any rabbit before him ever truly experience living in a laundry room for 7 consecutive years. He was more than a rabbit, more than a friend, more than always getting in the way when you tried to open up the drier and get some socks. Nibbles struck fame in early 2001 when he became the first rabbit on myspace. From there he never slowed down. Nibbles was a neighborhood favorite and known to take walks with his pink rabbit leash. Nibbles was an active member of the make-a-wish foundation as well as the National Honors Society.

IV. The legacy of Nibbles S. Hughes will be one of dignity and honor. Years from now, forests will be alive with stories of the great adventures of Nibbles. His view of the world was not one sided, but rather, 4 walled. He ate the same meal once a day for 9 years and never once complained. He could recite the first 6 chapters of Lord of the Flies from memory. He was a hero, a friend, a brother, a mentor, a scholar, a fighter, a lover, and an all around good rabbit. His presence will be missed. The world is a better place because of Nibbles S. Hughes.

(Nibbles leaves behind his father, Bob, mother, Judy, sister, Melanie, and brother, David, who all currently reside in Mission Viejo, California). Flowers/Packages/Cards may be sent to the Hughes' home address.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Grieving a loved one can be a very difficult thing. But, at least he is in heaven with The Croc Hunter.

Please let me know if there is anything Cathi can do for you during this emotional time.
